will host the

Burbank Centennial Celebration

~ Book Festival ~

Multi Author Event

We will have a booth (easy-up tent, tables and chairs) set up at the entrance to the library, just outside of the meeting room. Signings will be before and after the panel, outside at the booth. Six of our published authors will be participating in the signing with four of our pre-pubbed members joining with us on the panel discussion.

Christine London as moderator will adapt an outline used successfully at many brick and mortar stores as well as other libraries, for the occasion. Sharing of the process toward and after publication will be discussed in an informal give and take between panelists and the audience.

We are excited to spread the enthusiasm of LARA members at all stages of their career. Christine Ashworth, Jennifer Haymore, Charlene Sands, Kaitlin O’Riley and Dayle Dermatis will share their personal adventures, Dayle volunteering to provide information on her self publication experience. Suzanne Lazear will add zest as she awaits the release of her first novel and Robin Bielman and Anne Kemp, perspective from the aspiring author’s point of view.

Linda O. Johnston and Laura Sheehan are our very worthy panel alternates. We welcome them and all our LARA sisters and brothers to be panelists-at-large in the audience as we share our love of this genre.

2010

September is traditionally a month of transition. School buses are back on the streets, American football is revving up and most summer holidays are but a fond memory. We look back upon the tumult of August and welcome the cooling temperatures of autumn.

cover_Shadows_sm

> August 6th author Lin Holmes wrote an amazing blog about the mesmerizing characters coming to life in Christine’s soon-to-be-released novel Shadows Steal the Light. Lin has a way with not only words, but the uncanny ability to paint a picture of her colleague’s novels in entertaining and informative ways.

> Ginger Simpson interviewed Christine on her “Dishnin’ It Out” blog. She revealed that she had an author panel and discussion at the Union City Borders in the East Bay of San Francisco as well as another at Santana Row San Jose the very next day, August 6th and 7th..

“A tender and provoking tale of courage, loss, love, and adventure; a great mix for any genre.

Ms. London not only involves you in the lives of her primary and secondary characters, but you get the feeling that everyone’s souls are very much influential and integral to the happy joining of the other characters; that no one could honestly be left out and still make this book the gift it is.”

> Christine attended her Alma matter’s reunion of the performing arts department. A fundraiser for the arts at Palos Verdes High School, the night was filled with talent revisited and bittersweet moments of remembrance. She stood to announce her brother’s passing along with too many others who miss those who have left us too soon.

> Another Dawn’s Reading Nook guest blog on Sept 15th (2010) and a visit to colleague Roseanne Dowell’s blog on the 16th are in store. Christine is taking an online course in blogging and will participate in the October Muse free online conference. Networking with agents, editors and authors will be just some of the fun. Oct 11th-17th promises to be a stellar online experience.

> Guest on Whipped Cream blog on October 15th   http://wcguest.blogspot.com/

>Saturday Oct 23rd Christine will sign books at the Manhattan Beach Barnes and Noble.

> The next day she will be guest of the blog of the corporate romance book buyer, Sue Grimshaw. See bordersblog.com/trueromance

>Coolest news of all…Christine has just signed a contract for her mini novella, Reluctant Companions with MuseIt Publishing. Tentative release date August 2011. Many of her followers got a sneak peek over on her blog a few months back. This will be her ninth release. She looks forward to many many more.  🙂

> And here’s a film review posted this month on my London BLOG at: http://christinelondon.blogspot.com/

I went to see the popular film version of the best selling book yesterday and just read aeat-pray-love colleague’s review. Charlene Sands is a member of my writer’s group and a multipublished author in her own right.   ( Read it at: pinkheartsociety.blogspot.com )

Her review got me to thinking about the film I had just seen. Here’s my take:

One who went without having yet read the book, I have started reading it and can not comment as of yet on the ‘whininess’ many seem to feel the author/character displays, but as for the film–the whole point of it was to validate a woman’s need/desire to dive internally, whether through travel or simply self reflection (as the author states at the end and most people seem to miss).

Most women come to a place and time in their lives when they reevaluate the status of their lives. It does not mean you have to dump your hubby/bf, but it does require some private reflection and the ability to believe that you are worth the time and effort to do it. Of course we all don’t have the money or luxury to spend a year abroad, but we all do have the ability to look at who we are and where we are going–self love before we are capable of being the richly giving women we can be.

Perhaps this theme would have come across more poignantly if Julia Robert’s character were not more affluent than most. Does it really take a down and out woman to speak to a generation? Perhaps you too will be able to see past her affluence to the theme beneath. Love yourself enough to spend internal time reflecting and external time enjoying your life! More women could well benefit and enrich their lives if they stopped going round and round in the day to day rat race to —smell the margarita pizza.EatPrayLove2

November

2010 NaNoWriMo

Every year, during the entire month of November, thousands (maybe even millions) attempt to write 50,000 words in hopes of winning the coveted National Novel Writing Month award. 50,000 words is not quite a book, might be a novella, but most certainly, a darn good start to that 80, 000+ word paperback!

In order to win, one must ‘cross the line’ by turning in their word count to the NaNo counters. The trophy? You’re looking at it – this is the winner’s NaNo banner.

Interested? go to:

nanowrimo.org

Maybe next year, you coulld have one, too!

Open to all ages, all genres, all countries, all… well, it’s for you!

Opening Night for “300” at L.A. IMAX : How could the film possibly live up to the hype? Honor, Duty, Glory on the backdrop of a mesmerizing blood ballet; sit back, slack jawed and be amazed. Christine attended the opening night with a packed house. The audience seemed reticent to leave after the film. Men were revved up in that curious expression of male bonding that involves the pounding of backs and the punching of shoulders. The women showed their enthusiasm during the film, cheering at the assertive control the Queen displays in support of her husband and country. Awed to be in attendance at the unveiling of this modern masterpiece of art and virtue, long after the stunning visuals wash away the strength of the piece remains: honor, duty and no, not glory…integrity. ~ AK

U.S. Red Carpet Premiere for “300” : Christine attended the Grumann’s Chinese Theater arrival of cast and crew for the movie 300. Director, Zack Snyder, author, Frank Miller, and actors, Rodrigo Santoro, David Wenham, Gerard Butler and Lena Heady strolled the carpet. Only Santoro and Butler crossed the street to acknowledge their fans, signing autographs and conversing briefly with the crowd. “Gerry, thank you for answering my question at Wondercon,” Christine said. A questioning expression, then a glint of recognition, a chuckle and a broad smile followed. Thanks for all you do, Ger! ~ AK

WonderCon : Christine attends the convention of all things modern media at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. The thirty five hundred seat Esplanade Ballroom was standing room only for the presentation of the upcoming spring and summer movie panel of experts. Ratatouille, Spiderman 3, The Reaping, Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Transformer Movie directors, actors, producers, animators were all in attendance on the various panels. By far the most anticipated panel of the day: 300. It was the Zack and Gerry show with a smiling, but quiet Lena heady filling out the triad. “What do you hope the legacy of the film will be?”, Christine asked the panel. The room held it’s breath. The Late, Late Show : Christine attended taping of two episode of the Late Late Show with Scot, Craig Ferguson, host. Australian new age/salsa/jazz band, Cat Empire, actor/director Henry Winkler, academy award winner Jennifer Hudson, Family Guy creator, Seth MacFarlane and the man of the hour, Gerard Butler, were all guests. What is it about a cold wintry Montreal evening that gets a man to thinking about his cigarette addiction? “I quite fancied a fag after the long five month shoot”. Automatic Brit brain engaged, Gerry referred to his fall from abstinence in the only way a Scot would. The audience loved his American faux pas, chortling along with him in his embarrassment. Rushed beyond reason, booked past sanity in the vortex of promotion for his new movie, Gerard paused to acknowledge his admirers by signing fan generated paraphernalia backstage. Class act. ~ AK
